About The Hugo Cancio Foundation

Our Story

Hugo Cancio brings to this organization the tenacity that has marked his path. At the early age of 16 years old, he migrated to the United States along with his mother and sister during a Cuban exodus. It was his mother’s realization that there was no future in the Island for him, that made them take the leap.

The values and strengths developed in the following years, have shaped what decades later became the Hugo Cancio Foundation. The Foundation provides a personal approach to encourage the pursuit of life aspirations. As a family committed to the communities that raised them, the Cancios’ focus is in Cuban and South Florida communities.

“We have a unique opportunity to set aside our political and ideological differences by focusing on those things that unite us instead of those that divide us.”
